Family Tree Curriculum

Use of This Site

This site is being used for missionary training at the genealogical library in Salt Lake City. It is in no way an official site of the LDS Church and the ideas and content are from our teaching team, and not official declarations from the Church. The present sandbox is not fully functional, however most of the functions of family Tree are available. A new sandbox is being created that will be fully functional and it will be available in the next few months. In order to use the new curriculum below, a user will have to create a GEDCOM using the GEDCOM creator link found below. The GEDCOM will have to be imported so that it can be used in family Tree. A video showing the procedure will be found below. The new curriculum and data allow for full training of the Family Tree product. Use the lessons as you see fit. The lessons are written to be used in conjunction with the sandbox. There is a table below listing the lesson, video and task. These tasks refer to activities that should be used in conjunction with the videos. The videos have been made to be used with the sandbox however then can be used independently to learn the program or for training.

1. Read Purpose of Family Tree before beginning.

2. Family Tree Training Training from LDS Church that is not sandbox oriented (Access with LDS Account)

3. Print FamilySearchFamily Tree Beginning Lessons found below.

4. Read the lessons and before each task view the video pertaining to each task.

5. Create and upload a GEDCOM file to the training sandbox. As of 5 Jan 2013 when I created the video for uploading and using the new GEDCOM data, this portion of the program was not working. Try it out and if it works, it works; if not, wait a day or two, and try again. I have no control over what happens with the Sandbox.

6. Go to Training Sandbox and practice the activities in the lessons and videos. The web site is "training.familysearch.org"
